Transgender Resource center was Celebrated 3rd-year annual day function On March 3^rd, 2019 in the TRC office.       More than 40 peoples from Transgender Community and the general public participated the program. The function started with a welcome addressed Priyababu madam tells about two years TRC work experience in that meeting.    The Transgender Community members Solu, Barathikannama, Aaradhana, are Participated the event and explain their experience with Transgender Resource Center.  Barathikannama told TRC support for her medical expenses and she thanked to the team.  Aaradhana waiting for a police job.  she tells about her experience in TRC and with TRC team members.  Many school staff, some college students, resource persons, neighbors, sponsors also sharing their relationship and experience with the Transgender Resource Center.

India’s first Trans Literary Fest has been organized by Transgender Resource Center, Madurai on 14^th April 2019 at Hotel Chittoor, Madurai.

The event was also earmarked for honoring Thiru Su Samuthiram’s contribution to the literature as well as his support for and influence among the Trans community. Despite all such barriers he went ahead with his conscience and worked with them. The outcome of such a drive is the novel “Vadamalli” which is the first novel that has Transwoman as a protagonist. Family of Thiru Su. Samuthiram came and facilitated the event.

It has been followed by various cultural activities such as a mimicry show by Ms.Viji, a transwoman from Thiruvallur, and a dance show by another transwoman from the same region. Apart from participation from community members, participation from other genders was also noticed. Two girls exhibited their dancing skills at the stage and Thiru Siva Subramaniyam from Hosur, along with his son gave a musical treat to the audience.

Tmt Mangai Arasu (a) Padma, Thiru Munish & Ms. Revathy was honored with the first-year Su Samuthiram Remembrance Award. The awards were presented by the dignitary present and also family members of Thiru Su Samuthiram.

The winners of the Short Story competition were declared and the cash prize along with trophies was given to them. In addition to that consolation prizes were also distributed.

College students come forward as volunteers for the program. The event witnessed nearly 120 gatherings and many attended the event with their family and kids which indicates the infringement of barriers with the community also the community is introduced on a positive note to the next generation.

Transgender Resource Center has announced India’s first “Best Teacher Award” for creating an indiscriminate ambiance in the education sector. The Program was held at The Lady Doak College on 17^th July 2019. In this function, District Educational Officer, Madurai, Principal of Lady Doak College, Awardees and much more social activists, students from various colleges, and academicians took part.

TRC founder Priyababu said that, to recognize college teachers aiding in the education of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders, intersex, queer plus community. The government institutes many awards to teachers each year, but they barely address those who have uplifted our community. These teachers have a huge history and have consistently helped our students grow.

Teachers honored at the event, Mrs.R.Chitra from Sourashtra College, Mrs.Ann Nirmala Carr from Lady Doak College, Mr.Julian from The American College, Mr.R.Shankar from Manner Thirumalai Naicker College, spoke of the need for greater awareness among students. They said TRC had caused a wave in the minds of students by helping them understand a community that had been largely othered’.

Dr.Christianna Singh, Principal of Lady Doak College said students and teachers should be accepting of each other.Mrs.Pankajam, District Education Officer Congratulated the teachers.

It is a great opportunity to share our happiness with the youngsters, especially in a college in the southern district of Tamilnadu, opined the LGBTQI+ activists, who were in Madurai for a two-day state-level conference on LGBTQI+ and Indian media. The event was organized in the American college campus by the transgender resource center and the department of social work on the eve of one year of discrimination of section 377.

Paper presentations, posters, panel discussions, and a theatre play were organized by the students and the members of the LGBTQI+ community as a part of the two-day event.

Kalki Subramaniam of sahodari foundation while speaking about media influence in generating awareness about LGBTQI+ issues, said, “media has both positive and negative influences when it comes to portraying the trans community in India”.

Prof M.Krishnan, vice-chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University also spoke about the biological orientation of transgender and the positive usage of media in the inclusion of the transgenders. Dr.M.Davamani Christopher, principal of the American college committed to working with the community for its upliftment, and for providing inclusive educational opportunities and Priya Babu of the transgender resource center, who is working on collecting historical evidence about the community added, “Our debates should also translate into actions so that this freedom will help us in getting some rights.

During the seminar, a book on “Transgender in Tamil Cinema” written by Priya Babu was released.
